LEARN CHRIST
Ephesians 4:20 – But ye have not so learned Christ; (KJV)
Read: Ephesians 4:17-22
A fundamental aspect of living for Christ is the process of learning. Learning is an enlightening experience that is part of the spiritual life. Aside from performing miracles, Jesus often taught His disciples and people who practically learnt His way of life. A command to teach others also featured prominently in the template for expanding the gospel (Matthew 28:19-20). The essence of teaching is to expose “learners” to the knowledge of God through Jesus Christ.
Jesus is the standard for emulation and teaching; brethren must learn of Him because it is essential to Christian living and spiritual growth. This was Paul’s charge to the Ephesians in today’s Bible reading. The apostle warned the people to cease living the ignorant and faithless life of the Gentiles. Living in this manner negates the life that God gives and lures many into all kinds of evil. Paul then presented Christ as the perfect model, saying that whoever does the former things has not learnt Christ, wherein they ought to leave the old self and stop living in sin.
Beloved, this calls for self-reflection and examination. If iniquity or filthiness still thrives in you, it shows that you “have not so learned Christ.” This is different from the initial salvation, which is the passport to abundant life. However, just as babies develop, a Christian should aspire to know Christ more, or else they remain an infant, prone to reckless lusts. Therefore, the organic way to learn Jesus and to continue in His knowledge is through the Bible and meditating on it. The Holy Spirit plays a significant role in teaching you through revelation and prompting you to live the Christ-life (John 14:26). Pay careful attention to these things, and you will not be subject to darkness!
