BELOVED CHILDREN
Exodus 20:12

Parents are God’s ambassadors who serve as first and important mentors to their children. Those who provide spiritual guidance can also be regarded as parents. Every parent should give scriptural and moral instructions to their children who must comply, and failure to conform has dangerous consequences. James 4:17 says, “If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.” Disobedience is a sin that ends in spiritual and physical death (Romans 6:23). This is why the Bible text for today reveals that the reward for honouring parents is long life. In other words, obedience brings health and stability, while disobedience triggers a fall.
Disobedient individuals can fall from grace in a variety of ways. For example, a man in the village wanted to leave for the city, but his mother warned him several times not to go, saying that it was not yet time. This man refused and left for the city. When he got there, it was already dark, so he slept on the street. A few hours later, the man was robbed, and since he had no money to give the thieves, they angrily plugged out his eyes. The man became a beggar and begged for shelter until he got to the village. People quickly called his mother, and they both wept.
Beloved children, I urge you to obey and appreciate your parents because nothing can take their place. If you are not on good terms or caring for your parents, return to them today and make amends. Honour them and bless them regularly so that the blessings of obedience can find expression in your life. God bless your heart of obedience!
