FREEDOM FROM SIN
John 8:34 – Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin. (NLT)
Read: John 8:31-36
One of the ways the devil tames destiny is through the act of sin. As seen in today’s Bible reading, whoever commits iniquity is a slave to Satan. This means that a person who idolises money or jewellery, hates others, lies, gossips, and commits immoralities, among other vices, is a captive of sin and darkness. This is because whatever drives your thoughts and actions is your master. You must, therefore, keep your heart safe and be aware that when you do something against God, you are doing it in favour of Satan.
No sane human would like to perish because everyone desires peace and freedom. But sin has stolen God’s peace from humanity. Nevertheless, regardless of how sweet sin is, there are consequences. Sin is a reproach, a captor, and a destroyer. Perhaps you are bound by sin—lust, guilt, or addiction. Whatever it is, Christ’s salvation is available to you. Jesus came and died on the cross for you to be set free from the bondage of sin. If you repent and accept Christ, He will give you a new life.
Beloved, after you are saved, you must no longer join the citizens of the world in committing immoral things that grieve God. Instead, live a life of holiness with the help of the Holy Spirit.
PRAYER
Hymn: Softly and Tenderly, Jesus Is Calling – Will L. Thompson (1880)
1. Father, I don’t want to be a slave to Satan anymore. Please forgive my sins (confess) and guide my steps in Your righteousness.
(MIDNIGHT PRAYER)
1. Holy Spirit, quench every appetite for sin and immorality in me.
2. Glory of God! Overshadow my life, family, nation, and the Church.
3. End-of-year tragedy, I escape you through the blood of Jesus!
