YOU ATE OUR GODS
Exodus 20:3 – “You shall have no other gods before me. (NIV)
Several years ago, I was cooking meat when, suddenly, a housemate surfaced and was almost vomiting. I said, “I hope all was well.” He replied, “You are eating our gods,” and then he dashed out the door.
In some parts of the world, animals are almost preferred to humans, to the extent that a company decided to mourn a domestic animal for a week. We must be moderate in whatever we do. Remember the first commandment, which we have as our Bible text. No other god is permitted to equate with God’s status in our lives. In Daniel 3, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego showed an excellent example of how we must love and stick to God. These Hebrew men refused to bow to the golden image King Nebuchadnezzar had ordered everyone to worship. In the end, the men were promoted.
Luke 12:34 says, where your treasure is, there will be your heart. Whatever you value more than your creator, replaces God in your life. What are your self-made gods? Money, possessions, or certificates? Think deeply and repent! It pays to serve God alone because He can carry you in difficult situations, whereas others carry their own gods. How can something you need to carry from the sun or rain be your god? All idols can perish, but our God is everlasting. His name is Jesus, and He invites you to taste Him and see that the Lord is good (Psalms 34:8).
This is a call of duty to all children of God. Many nations still worship idols. Let’s reach out with the gospel and good works, and they shall see the light.
