WHAT ARE YOU THANKFUL FOR?
1 Thessalonians 5:18
No matter what happens, always be thankful, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus (TLB).
In 1621, when the pilgrims landed in Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA, they struggled through the first winter so that when summer came, they were happy because they have learnt a lot. Consequently, they planted seeds in the pastures and harvested good crops. Not too far from the village, they hunted wild turkeys and deer effortlessly. As if that was not enough, they caught plenty of fishes and lobsters in the rivers.
The summer has been perfect, so the people wanted to celebrate, thanking God who made it possible (Psalms 103:2). The Governor said, “Let us gather our first harvest and celebrate.” (Firstfruits – Proverbs 3:9-10). “Indeed, let us choose a day to thank God for our blessings and invite our friends who have been so nice to us”, said the well-respected Elder Brewster. These pilgrims had a heart and act of gratitude that brought about the annual ‘Thanksgiving Day’ in America.
Beloved, as seen in our Bible reading, let us make every day our moments of appreciation to God. This is the sixth month, up till now, we have worked hard, and sadly, some could not see this day. But, here we are, celebrating a new day, month, birthday, anniversaries and graduation. Is God not worthy of praise? (Psalms 150). He does! You will therefore count your testimonies so far in the year and give quality thanks to the Lord who kept you this far.
“It is not about wealth that makes a man rich, but about the grace of God to witness yet another day.” — Kehinde Abolarin.
