WE ARE HUMANS!

Acts 14:8-20 (11) – When the crowd saw what Paul had done, they shouted in the Lycaonian language, “The gods have come down to us in human form!” (NIV)

My phone beeped with a text from someone who mistook me for another popular pastor. With the way she communicated, it felt as though she was chatting to God. However, she was disappointed when she discovered it was the wrong contact.

While it is important to honour God’s vessels, we must not treat them as God (Leviticus 19:4). Many people have turned God’s servants into men and women of gold. They think they are infallible, so they measure themselves by their principles instead of heaven’s standard. Some may even imagine themselves daydreaming when they see pastors eating or doing normal chores. This is why several atrocities are perpetrated in Christendom because the people are too gullible to discern (2 Timothy 4:3-4).

But woe unto the false prophets who fail to realise that, irrespective of how anointed they are, they cannot take God’s place. Some ministers have allowed pride to rob them of their unction. Therefore, we must learn from Paul’s example. In today’s Bible reading, after Paul healed the lame man, the crowd drew closer and began to call him and Barnabas gods. But Paul and Barnabas quickly cautioned these citizens of Lystra, saying: “We too are only human, like you” (15).

Beloved, whoever is used by God is human and should never be worshipped. You can only honour and bless them, but all should be to the glory of God (1 Timothy 5:17-25). Also, every vessel of God must take heed lest the people push them into pride and destruction.

PRAYER

Hymn: Take Time to Be Holy — William D. Longstaff (1882)

  1. Father, help me see You in others so that I can glorify You rather than the vessel.
  2. Father, please provide me with the resources I need to bless Your vessels.

(MIDNIGHT PRAYER)

  1. Father, in whatever way I am dying to live. Please breathe life into me.
  2. Lord Jesus, deliver the Church and me from any actions that may turn Your face away from us.
  3. Father, deliver me, my friends and relatives from the power of the early grave.

MAKE IT A PRAYER-FILLED WEEKEND!
