John 4:23-24 (23) – But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. (KJV)

Anyone can be religious, but not everyone can offer acceptable worship to God. Many Christians are misled into believing that their religious activities are more important to God, whereas there is a required form of worship that heaven recognises as essential rather than religiosity.

In today’s Bible reading, Christ gave a description of true worshippers as those who worship God in spirit and truth. This means that being conscious of Christ’s lordship and the presence of His spirit is vital to our Christian journey. Worship without acknowledging and yielding to the Holy Spirit is simply a religious function. However, when we subject ourselves to the Holy Spirit and exalt God in truth, it helps us pattern our worship after the will of God. When this is done, the glory of God comes down, and its illumination triggers an unrestricted dimension of power among the worshippers.

Beloved, are you deeply rooted in Christ and alive with His Spirit? Remember that the Pharisees were perfectionists in religion, but they lacked the spirit of God and truth. Jesus is the truth! (John 14:6). If you don’t know Jesus, you can’t offer acceptable worship. It is easy to be deceived by what people believe you are in God and not what God thinks of your worship. I challenge you to examine your heart and acts of worship and cry out in prayer for an alignment with God’s will in your worship of Him. Be blessed in Jesus’ name.

Hymn: Old Time Religion (African American Heritage)

1. Father, help me to worship You in spirit and in truth.

1. Father, I surrender to You. Please chasten me where needed and lead me in righteousness.

2. Holy Spirit, draw me near to Yourself that I may hear and obey Thy leading.

3. Any false occupier of my divine territory, be uprooted by fire!
