John 4:23-24 (23) – But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. (KJV)

Read: John 14:6

Anyone can be religious, but not everyone offers acceptable worship to God. Some Christians believe that their religious activities are more important to God, whereas there is a required form of worship that heaven recognises as essential rather than being religious.

In today’s Bible reading, Christ gave a description of true worshippers as those who worship God in spirit and truth. This means that being conscious of Christ’s excellency and the presence of His Spirit is vital to the Christian journey. Worship without acknowledging and yielding to the Holy Spirit is simply a religious function. However, when your heart is subject to the Holy Spirit, and you exalt God in truth, it helps to pattern your worship after the will of God and triggers an unrestricted dimension of His power in your life.

Beloved, are you deeply rooted in Christ and alive with His Spirit? Remember that the Pharisees were perfectionists in religion but lacked the Spirit of God and failed to live by the truth. Jesus is the truth! If you don’t know Jesus, you can’t offer acceptable worship to the Father. It is easy to be deceived by what people believe you are in God and not what God thinks of your worship. I challenge you to examine your heart and acts of worship and cry out in prayer for an alignment with God’s will in your worship of Him. It shall always be well with you. Be blessed in Jesus’ name.

Hymn: Old Time Religion (African American Heritage)

1. Father, help me to worship You in spirit and in truth.

1. Father, I surrender to You. Please chasten me where needed and lead me in righteousness.

2. Holy Spirit, draw me near to Yourself that I may hear and obey Thy leading.

3. Any false occupier of my divine territory, be uprooted by fire!
