Ephesians 4:17-32 (22) – You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; (NIV)
There may be some habits we have formed, which have now become part of us. They could be bad self and time management, disobedience to God and elders, poor table manners, pride, pornography, sexual immorality, including pre-or extra-marital affairs and, the commonest which is ‘telling lies’. For example, many children grow up as trained liars when their parents tell them to inform visitors that they are not at home whereas they are inside (Proverbs 22:6). I know you understand what I am talking about!
Beloved, have you noticed any anti-Christ behaviours in you? If yes! Get rid of them because these corruptible morals can dent your qualities and righteous living (Song of Solomon 2:15). Today’s Bible reading encourages us to do away with the old and unpleasant ways; because when we are in Christ, we are new creatures (2 Corinthians 5:17). More so, God has given us everything we need for a holy life through our knowledge of Him (2 Peter 1:2-5). The knowledge here comes from praying, discerning and studying the Word (Joshua 1:8). By these, our lifestyle shall conform to the will of the Father!
Finally, avoid people and things that trigger those unpleasant habits and look up to Jesus! (Hebrews 12:1-2).
Hymn: More About Jesus — Eliza E. Hewitt (1887)
1. Lord Jesus, please forgive my sins and destroy the immoral life pattern in me.
2. Holy Spirit, breathe on me the fear of God and a new mentality (mention).
1. Father, thank You for my living, provision and sanity.
2. Father, please grant me the grace and power to honour You always.
3. Lord, help my family, nation, the church and me, never to trigger our own destruction.
BEHOLD! A NEW YOU.
