THE WOOD OF PRAYER
Proverbs 26:20-21 (20a) – Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out. (KJV)
Read: Leviticus 6:12-13
One of God’s desires is that the prayer altar keeps burning so that the fire does not go out. Leviticus 6:12-13 says, “And the fire upon the altar shall be burning in it; it shall not be put out: and the priest shall burn wood on it every morning…” This verse indicates your duty to ensure that your relationship with God does not suffer. There won’t be fire where there is no sacrifice on the altar! When you are dedicated to communion with God, He is mandated to light up your altar and set you on fire, but it is your responsibility to maintain the fire through worship and prayer.
Leviticus 6:12-13 further refers to wood on the altar. The wood is for sustaining the fire, and today’s Bible reading makes it clear that without the wood, the fire will quench. Proverbs 26:21 mentions that coal is required to set other coals on fire. This means that you need wood and coals in prayer to remain vibrant. Wood can represent the tools that stir your worship in God’s presence. It could be singing songs, hymns, and praying in the Holy Ghost, while “coals” could mean revival. When your altar of prayer is kindled, the fire will be evident in your communities, and people’s altars will be lit to extend the fire!
Beloved, I encourage you this new month to set your altar on fire and maintain it. Identify your woods in prayer and fan them into flames. When this is done, it will be easy to light the coals of revival for God. May God bless you!
