THE WIFE
Proverbs 12:4
A wife of noble character is her husband’s crown, but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones. (NIV)
Two are better than one in marriage because ‘one will chase a thousand, two shall chase ten thousand’ (Ecclesiastes 4:9-11). When both couples were single, they followed separate dreams, but now they must combine to pursue ten thousand (Deuteronomy 32:30). However, there are spouses with characters that could destroy the union! Today’s Bible reading focuses on the woman; when a wife has godly qualities, she becomes her husband’s pride.
A virtuous wife gains the confidence of her spouse because the man knows her worth and the marriage will get stronger (Proverbs 31:10-12). But a woman who does things that shames her home is a slow killer. For example, an adulterous spouse can equally kill the partner (Matthew 5:27-32). When a wife disrespects her man even in public, she indirectly downgrades him because people will address him the way she presents him (Ephesians 5:22-33). A woman can also bring disrepute to her husband through unholy dressing (1 Peter 3:1-7).
Beloved, there is more to marriage! Every woman wants to be virtuous, but we must examine our conduct to see if we are not instead constituting as an object of disgrace to the family. Two are to be united, not disunited (Amos 3:3). Have you found a virtuous woman? If yes! Nurture her, because she is rare and worth far more than diamond. May the Lord grant us the wisdom to keep our homes, in Jesus’ name.
