THE VERY FIRST WORDS OF GOD, MAN, AND SATAN
James 4:7 – Surrender to God! Resist the devil, and he will run from you. (CEV)
Read: Genesis 1:1-5, Ephesians 6:11-13
The first-ever words spoken by God were “Let there be light”, and there was light. This is because God is light and wants us to shine over darkness. Christ reiterated this in John 8:12, when He said, “I am the light of the world…” He then stated that we are the light and salt of the earth (Matthew 5:13-16). In other words, we must mirror God’s glory to all creation.
Adam’s first recorded words were, “This is now bone of my bones…” (Genesis 2:23), which meant that he accepted and claimed what God had done (the woman). Many times, God speaks to us concerning our situations, and we fail to believe. We must move beyond the level of distrust to claim God’s promise and word for it to become a manifestation.
Satan’s first words were, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” (Genesis 3:1-7). The devil is crafty, and that’s how he could manipulate God’s instructions to deceive man. Eve should not have entertained the conversation. As seen in today’s text, we must totally submit to God to receive the power to resist the devil.
WHAT NOW?
God gave His word and instructions to man. These were received, yet the devil tricked man and still goes around looking for whom to devour. Irrespective of the circumstances, stick to God’s first pronouncement and the Holy Spirit’s words in season. God’s words are right and purifying. Even when the word chastens us, it’s because we are loved.

1. I believe Your word, Lord. Let it illuminate my path to victory over Satan’s suggestions.
