THE STRENGTH OF DIVINE CHAMPIONS
1 Samuel 2:9
He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail. (KJV)
A divine champion is a victor that is strengthened by God and has nothing to fear. Today’s Bible reading tells us that human strength often fails, and a divine champion will never make the arm of flesh his backbone. Instead, his hope lies in God’s power. In 1 Kings 19:5-7, we are told of the story of Elijah when he fled from Jezebel to Horeb. Elijah was so distressed that he prayed for God to take his life. But an angel encouraged Elijah and brought him baked bread and water that he might take in before proceeding on his journey.
Beloved, as we end this old year and begin another in a few hours, what will sustain you is neither your physical skills nor financial strength. Rather, what will uphold you in living the life of a divine champion is your dependence on God. In the same way that the angel of the Lord ministered to Elijah, at every moment of 2022, we need the Holy Spirit to inspire us. We must be sensitive to the divine leading and never take God for granted. Intentionally make God your confidence, please Him with your lifestyle, and you shall prevail on all sides, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
