THE ISSUE WITH MASTURBATION
Proverbs 4:23 – Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. (NIV)
Read: Colossians 3:5
Masturbation is the act of satisfying one’s desires. The issue of masturbation is not explicitly addressed in the Bible, but what precedes or accompanies it is what leads to sin. This is because someone engaging in this act will have lustful imaginations; therefore, it is likened to committing immorality and other sexual perversions that can be imagined.
There are married people who still engage in masturbation. Such a spouse is cheating their partner because the one performing the act is self-pleasuring when they both should be mating. 1 Corinthians 7:4-5 says: “The wife does not have authority over her own body but yields it to her husband. In the same way, the husband does not have authority over his own body but yields it to his wife. Do not deprive each other…”
Masturbation could also make a person addicted to pornography, leading to dissatisfaction and over-expectations in marital sex. This is because the fellow engaging in the act might be expecting the other to replicate the ungodly patterns seen in movies, porn videos, or on the internet.
Beloved, since this act happens mostly through immoral thoughts, it exposes a person to being possessed by an unclean spirit. As seen in our Bible reading today, it is important to always guard one’s self and heart because out of the mind flow the issues of life. Whether married or unmarried, the body is the temple of God and should be made pure. Therefore, equip the mind with the scriptures to eliminate any form of lustful desire.
