THE FROG

Proverbs 14:12 – There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death. (NIV)

When a frog is kept in a container of water, as soon as you start heating the water, the frog adjusts its body temperature. The amphibian keeps tuning its body to the rising condition of the water. When the water is about to reach the boiling point, the frog cannot adapt anymore. At this moment, the frog decides to jump out, but it is too late because it has wasted its strength trying to conform to the increasing water temperature. Consequently, the frog dies.

We might think it was the hot water that killed the frog. The truth is that the amphibian died due to its indecision on when to escape from the water. Several times in our lives’ journey and the quest to fulfil our purpose, we face hurdles that require us to adjust to people, nature and circumstances, but we must discern when to adapt and the time to move. As children of God, there are situations when we need to stand tall. Proverbs 24:10 says: If we faint in the day of adversity, our strength is small. In times of fear, worry, affliction and problematic occurrences that challenge our faith, we must stick with God because therein lies our victory.

There are also set-ups similar to the case of the frog, where we ought to flee. Sin is an example. As seen in our Bible reading, sin and self-indulgence are enticing, but their end is destruction. The root of the world’s problem is sin—it leads to spiritual and physical death (Romans 6:23). Prayerlessless, spiritual blindness and ignorance can also lead to rot (Hosea 4:6). Finally, we must flee every unholy relationship. Any association that drains us mentally, financially, bodily or spiritually should be quit. Ask the Holy Spirit for true revelation and jump out of the boiling water while you still have the energy.

1. Father, I reaffirm my commitment to You. Please, lead me on the best path and help me follow.

2. Holy Spirit, open my eyes of understanding that I may discern the right steps.

(MIDNIGHT PRAYER)

1. Wisdom of God, possess my life, children, leaders and the Church.

2. Father, give me the grace and resources to quit every ungodly gathering.

3. My head and children, reject evil manipulation and external destructive influence.
