THE “FIRE” OF PRAYER

1 Kings 18:36-38 (38) – Then the fire of the Lord fell and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil, and also licked up the water in the trench. (NIV)

Read: Job 22:28

Today’s Bible reading reveals the multidimensional nature of prayer. Prayer can be used calmly or could also be adapted in a violent manner. Hebrews 12:29 says, “For our God is a consuming fire.” Prophet Elijah understood this dimension of God and called down fire through the efficacy of prayer to silence the prophets of Baal. Without a doubt, prayer is a means by which a believer’s confidence and knowledge about God can be brought to reality.

There is another dimension to prayer being used as a fire command. This was what Elijah did when he prayed in 1 Kings 18:36-37. There was also a lady who mistakenly stepped on the toes of a dreaded masquerade, and she immediately apologised. However, the masquerade saw the situation as an opportunity to demonstrate his power, and he began spitting fire. As he tried to attack the lady, she simply shouted, “In the name of Jesus, let your powers be neutralised.” Suddenly, the fire in the masquerade’s mouth dropped on his body, and he prostrated to beg for mercy. The attacker became the victim!

Beloved, there is power in prayer. The reason behind the persistent attacks may be due to your ignorance about the “fire” of prayer and the name of Jesus. Elijah and the lady were able to pray with authority based on their knowledge of God. In the same way, the Word is available to you to grow spiritually and decree fire to pull down strongholds. Go ahead and command fire. You will prevail.
