THE EFFICACY OF PRAISE

Acts 2:42-47 (47) – Praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. (NIV)

Giving praise is one of the oldest acts of our generation. We honour the Lord in diverse ways; however, when we worship Him in spirit and truth (John 4:23-24), there is bound to be a connection to the throne of grace. Psalms 22:3 tells us that God inhabits the praises of His people. In other words, genuine praise and worship is God’s food, and when the Almighty is pleased; He moves into action.

Studying our Bible reading, you will discover that alongside praising God, the people did other things. The congregation were devoted to the apostles’ teaching, prayed, believed in the signs and wonders, loved one another in togetherness, sold their possession to give to the needy, continued in fellowship and broke bread with joy and sincere heart (vs 42-46). After all these, they praised the Lord, and there was an instant response from heaven. The first blessings the people began to enjoy from God was favour. Secondly, God added to their numbers daily those that were being saved.

Beloved, the praises that God will accept and respond to must be the one that comes from a cooked and ready heart. The worshippers did not just bump into praises; instead, they had an understanding of who God is. These men and women did not take praises as levity or a way to bribe God; they did other godly acts which made their altar of worship a fertile ground for God’s dwelling. The conclusion of the matter is that praise and worship are not merely physical exercises; they must accompany other principles of God, such as holiness and those actions carried out by the people used as our case study. As you do these, you shall indeed experience all-round favour and multiplication, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
