THE EFFICACY OF PRAISE (2)

2 Chronicles 20:18-25 (22) – As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated. (NIV)

Praising God is one of the most underrated experiences of contemporary Christians. This is because people now take the Lord’s presence for granted and commonise His worship. However, in reality, praising God is spiritual. The Book of John 4:23-24 confirms that whoever would worship God must do it sincerely and spiritually. That is, our body, soul and spirit must be divinely connected in worship. When this is the case, the power in God’s presence comes into play and yokes are broken!

An excellent example of the efficacy of praising God is found in our Bible reading. When Judah was to battle Ammon, Moab and Mount Seir, Jehoshaphat only appointed praise singers unto God, and the unexplainable force in true worship triggered their enemies’ destruction.

Glorifying God can also twist the heart of men. I ignorantly once made a mistake that almost shut all systems down where I worked, and the manager told me that the error was too obvious to go unnoticed by the company. He was indirectly telling me to expect the sack. Consequently, I engaged in consecutive praise sessions, and the next time I saw the manager, instead of dismissal, he exchanged more pleasantries with me than he ever did. That is what a genuine act of worship can do.

Beloved, without much ado, I urge you to engage more in praising God. Never take it for granted — do it in spirit and truth. Deliberately use your worship to maintain God’s presence (Psalms 100). He shall fight your battles!

PRAYER

Hymn: I Will Sing of the Mercies of the Lord — James H. Fillmore (1874)

1. Father, help me not to take Your presence and worship with levity and pride.

(MIDNIGHT PRAYER)

1. Holy Spirit, put on me the garment of praise and thanksgiving.

2. Father, cause my household, my generations to come, and the Church to dwell in the worship of You.

3. Spend quality time to praise and worship God.
