1 Corinthians 3:1-5 (2) – I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. (NIV)

When a child is not growing as he or she should, it is an indication that something is wrong because growth is a symbol of health and life. In the same manner, just as we all grew from childhood (1 Corinthians 13:11); so must we mature in the spirit (1 Peter 2:1-2). Irrespective of your religious devotedness and labour in the church, if you are not subject to the Holy Ghost, you will remain as babes who live by the flesh!

Apostle Paul was addressing the Corinthian church and its leaders in our Bible reading. He highlighted the fact that they were worldly; filled with jealousy and disagreement. Therefore, the people were not ready for solid ‘spiritual’ food because they cannot digest it, or can you imagine feeding a newborn with bread? Today, many Christians are carnal-minded. In character, and by their fruits (Matthew 7:16), they are religious and motivated by positions, so they find it hard to please God (Romans 8:6-10).

Beloved, several pastors have sown spiritual seeds in their congregation, which fails to germinate because the people are still babes. Envy, pride, unforgiveness, greed and immorality, among other things, are what occupies their hearts. Similarly, some ministers preach about Christ’s exploits but doubt the supernatural (Matthew 23). If you fall into these categories; you are a babe and not ready for spiritual growth! However, if you call on the Holy Spirit and submit to Him, He will nurture you continually (Galatians 5:22-26).

Hymn: Draw Me Nearer – Frances J. Crosby (1875)

1. Repent of anything causing spiritual retrogression in your life.

2. Father, revive my spiritual life and open my eyes of understanding!

1. Holy Ghost, please take over my life; body, soul and spirit.

2. I shall not fall from my secure position in Christ and destiny.

3. I receive the grace to see and live beyond the physical.
