1 Corinthians 3:1-5 (1) – Dear brothers and sisters, when I was with you I couldn’t talk to you as I would to spiritual people. I had to talk as though you belonged to this world or as though you were infants in the Christian life. (NLT)

Read: 2 Peter 3:18

Yesterday, we learned about the Holy Spirit and hearing His voice. The next level is to grow spiritually. Just as humans grow, it is necessary for the children of God to develop in the spirit. The nurturing of the spirit man is the work of the Holy Spirit. If you are not subject to His leading, you will remain under the control of the flesh!

In today’s Bible reading, Paul addresses the people of Corinth because they were carnal-minded and behaved like baby Christians who refused to grow in the spirit. There are many such Christians and even ministers who claim to have been born again but live in the flesh. They have years of experience in the Christian faith, but there is no evidence of Christ in them. These people gossip, are envious and do not forgive.

There are also the “wolves in sheep’s clothing” who disguise themselves as if they have a healthy relationship with God but are deceivers. If you don’t take your spiritual life and growth seriously, you will fall prey to these destroyers.

Another evidence of a lack of spiritual growth is being religious. People who are religious prioritise traditions and get motivated by positions, leading them to displease God. A religious person is also spiritually complacent and unstable in his works and belief in Christ.

Beloved, you will examine yourself to see how and where you are still displaying the acts of the flesh. God’s desire for you is not to remain a baby but to grow spiritually. If you discover anything contrary to God’s pattern in your life, repent so that you won’t be spat out by God.
