SLAVE OF THE WORLD
1 John 3:8 – The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. (NIV)

The world represents everything that opposes righteousness, while a slave is someone who submits to a dominant influence, even though he might be unwilling to do what is commanded. Today’s Bible text reveals that anyone who commits sin is a slave to the devil. In the same way, whoever directs your life or whatever dictates your thoughts is what you are enslaved to.
The world is full of beliefs and things that negate God’s standards but control the hearts of people. If you indecently value money and materialism or find yourself hating, gossiping, lying under the guise of diplomacy, or committing sexual immoralities, you are bound to sin and be subject to the norms of the world. You should therefore not be entangled with a world system that condones sin and is controlled by lustful winds. This is because “whoever chooses to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.” (James 4:4)
Beloved, regardless of the sweetness of sin and the attractiveness of the world, there is the bondage of guilt and consequences attached to it. No normal human loves to be in bondage. All people yearn for is freedom, and that’s exactly what Jesus gives. Christ came purposefully to deliver humanity from the captivity of sin. Irrespective of how dirty, addicted to sin, and unforgiving your past is, you can experience a new beginning. All you need to do is repent genuinely, confess your sins, and acknowledge the saving grace in Jesus’ name. As you determine to actively flee from anything that causes you to sin, the Holy Spirit will be your guide.

2. Father, help me to live a life of righteousness and no longer be a slave of sin and the world.
