Matthew 5:16 – In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. (NIV)

In Philippians 2:12-15, Apostle Paul gave clear instructions by which every child of God can become a shining star. He told us to work out our salvation with fear and trembling, doing everything without grumbling or arguing. Through this, we will be blameless and pure in a crooked generation. The result of this is that we will shine like the stars in the sky.

These instructions can be summarised as that we must be determined to be like Jesus. Christ lived His entire life to do the will of the Father. He respected His relationship with God in order to complete His spiritual and earthly missions. The Son of God never complained or craved lustful desires. Instead, He was pure and shone the light in a corrupt world.

Beloved, to shine like stars in the church, workplace, community, and even in the family, obeying God as Christ did is the secret to fulfilling divine purpose wherein the light of God shines evidently. As seen in today’s Bible reading, understanding that the reason for our existence is to shine for God will help us submit to His will. As stars lighten up the sky, our good deeds are important to making an impact on our generation. I urge you to conform to God’s pattern by living like Jesus, and you will not only shine in this world but make it to eternity with God.

Hymn: Shining for Jesus — Johnson Oatman Jr. (1895)

1. I will shine for God in my generation through my lifestyle. I will do good and spread the gospel of Jesus. By the grace of God, I will prevail over every force of hell and discouragement. So, help me, God.

1. This August, Father please give me the strength to be diligent and make me a blessing to my generation.

2. Father, open my eyes to the secrets I need in order not to fail You or fall into error.

3. Any day of this month the enemy has chosen to afflict me, my family and Church, be transformed into joy.
