Leviticus 6:13 – The fire must be kept burning on the altar continuously; it must not go out. (NIV)

Read: Revelation 3:15-16

A lady was frying bean cakes, and after frying two batches, the oil became so hot that she had to turn off the cooker. Because the oil was already hot, she was able to fry another batch without turning on the fire. However, to fry the fourth batch, the cooker was turned back on to reheat the oil. At that moment, the Holy Spirit likened the scenario to what happens in the spiritual realm.

If you have a gift or a calling, maybe to teach, preach, intercede, or lead worship, the power of God will descend mightily. But when the fire goes out, you may function for some time, like the already boiled oil, only to spark out for lack of power. Therefore, as today’s Bible reading warns, you need to maintain the fire so it does not go out. You must continually study the Word and recharge your battery (pray) in order to last longer. Without all these, you will run dry!

The Bible says if the foundation is destroyed, what can the righteous do? The response can be found in the secret place of the most high. Daily, you should seek God wholeheartedly. Pray that the wisdom and power you require to stay relevant will be released to you in Jesus’ name.

Hymn: Let the Fire Fall on Me — William J. Henry (1926)

1. Holy Ghost! Revive me and baptise me with Your fire.

1. Father, do not allow me to quench Your fire in my life, career, and calling.

2. Father, empower me, my family, and the Church to make it to the end.

3. Father, silence every aggression of the wicked over my life and family.
