NURTURE THE RELATIONSHIP (Part 2)

Mark 12:30-31 (31) – The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” (NIV)

Read: John 13:35

Early in 2006, a woman’s body was discovered in her flat after she had died in 2003. Her death went unnoticed for 3 years because she was not in contact with anyone. She left her job in 2005 and reduced communication with former colleagues, family, friends, and her neighbours, who did not take note of her disappearance.

There is no joy in writing this story. However, there are lessons to be learned from it! Never isolate yourself from the world. People might have hurt you and sown negative impressions in your heart, yet there is never an acceptable reason to cut yourself off from everyone. There should still be a few people you can confide in.

Studying the experience of the prodigal son, despite squandering all his inheritance, he recognised the importance of communication and returned to his father (Luke 15:11-32). Are you lonely because you sinned or because you have been offended so much that you have decided to stay away from people? Don’t die in silence! Go back to your spouse, children, colleagues, and even those neighbours you have fought with. This is because anyone could be your saviour someday. God can use them for you, or you for them. Be open to love and reach out always. After all, today’s Bible reading admonishes that you love your neighbours as Christ did!

ACTION POINT

You will call the people you have not heard from in a while. Reconnect with your parents and friends—if it takes the tears from your eyes, don’t worry; do it to resolve all issues and stay close to one another. The world will acknowledge you as a faithful Christian as you do this.
