NO GAIN UNDER THE SUN
Hebrews 9:27 – And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: (KJV)
Everyone has a life and a destiny to fulfil. Whatever we achieve during our existence would be used to describe us after we are gone. But above all, life is vanity. The Book of Ecclesiastes was written by the wisest man (Solomon), who was so wealthy that he gave bountiful offerings to God in a day. Nevertheless, he said one thing happens to the rich, poor, righteous and the wicked — death (Ecclesiastes 2:4-11; 9:2-3). No matter your ranking, possessions or achievements in this world, all is for a moment because death is inevitable!
We all perhaps know of the rich fool whose business blossomed in Luke 12:13-21. He became boastful so that his soul was taken on the same night. In our generation, some people also illegally acquired money from the national treasury. When one of such powerful fellows died, his death was too easy to believe, and of course, he was buried with nothing.
Beloved, what are you struggling to get — Money, houses, certificates or fame? Yes, these are good, but life itself is a display that fades away. We must not place value on perishable materials over our soul because, as seen in our Bible reading, once a man dies, his fate is sealed. Therefore, the best thing to do while alive is to give our lives to Christ — live a life of holiness by the Spirit, have faith, love others and spread the gospel (Psalm 96:3).
‘In Jesus lies the surest escape route — there is an assured hope on earth and eternity.’
Hymn: In Christ Alone – Keith Getty & Stuart Townsend (2001)
1. Father, I don’t want to die twice (earth and hell). Help me to eternity!
1. I refuse to live a valueless life. I shall make an impact on my generation.
2. Lord, please give me the grace to live a holy life and make heaven at last.
3. Father, help me, my family and the Church to maximise every purposeful opportunity before it is too late!
YOUR FAITH SHALL SPEAK FOR YOU!
