Psalm 23:1-3 (1)
The LORD is my shepherd. I am never in need. (GW)

A shepherd tends for the sheep, while the green pasture is the dwelling place for the sheep. The gospel, according to John 10:11-18 gives an understanding that Christ is the good shepherd, and we are the sheep. Indeed, a caring shepherd would position the sheep where they continuously get refreshed. For example, the parable of the lost sheep in Luke 15:1-7 makes it clear that God cares intimately for each of His sheep, regardless of their numbers. And, this was what David referred to in today’s Bible reading.

“God gives provision.”

Of truth, a sheep can never lack shelter if it follows the leader and resides in a flourishing grassland. No wonder Apostle Paul testified to the sureness of God’s ability to provide all our desires (Philippians 4:19). Similarly, verses 2 and 3 of our text affirms that God would ensure that we enjoy rest when He lays us down in the blooming pasture, after which He leads us beside peaceful waters. He shall then bring restoration to every thirsting soul and guide them in righteousness for His name to be glorified (Psalms 37:23-25).

Beloved, do you know that none of God’s genuine children will get deprived of these blessings? (Proverbs 13:25). Even when the world is raging, the sheep will experience peace and a sound mind (John 14:27). However, there is a requirement to qualify as a sheep. Hebrews 13:20-21 indicates that Jesus, the great shepherd, will equip those who do His will with good things. If you obey God’s commands, you are a sheep who shares in His glory. But if you are on the side of the goats, the end is destruction (Matthew 25:32). Therefore, repent and accept Christ to reign with Him enjoy God’s love (John 10:27-29).

Hymn: Jesus Saves — Priscilla J. Owens (1882)

  1. Father, please be my shepherd in every aspect and make me a faithful sheep!

  1. My glory and benefits in the hands of the strongman, be released!
  2. Every secret grave dug for me this year. Swallow your diggers!
  3. Holy Spirit, mend the hole in my heart and pains in my body, family and the Church.
