MORE THAN A BROTHER
Proverbs 18:24 – One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. (NIV)
When all is rosy, and the going is smooth, you make friends, and the people want to identify with you, but when the chips are down, families and followers disappear. No wonder, Proverbs 19:4 says: “Wealth brings many new friends, but a poor man is deserted by his friend.” (ESV). This was Job’s experience when he lost everything so that his wife advised him to curse God and die (Job 2:7-10). Similarly, Peter denied Christ despite being warned earlier (Mark 14:30-72).
Have you been dependent on man and being disappointed? Do not forget that man is limited (Psalms 60:11-12). Instead, you should call on the Lord to bless you with good friends such as the ones who went as far as drilling the roof to ensure that their paralysed friend met Jesus (Mark 2:1-12).
Beloved, as seen in our Bible reading, there is only one friend who can never desert you even when your trusty, allies, government, spouse, or mother forsakes you (Isaiah 49:15-16). His name is Jesus! If you make Him your best pal, regardless of your wretched past and possible errors, He will receive you, catch you when you stumble and never mock you. Will you accept Him today? He is calling! (Revelation 3:20)
