MASTURBATION
Proverbs 25:28 – Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control. (NIV)
Masturbation is an act of indulgence—satisfying one’s desires. While masturbation is not explicitly addressed in the Bible, yet what precedes and accompanies it makes it a sin. For example, a person who engages in this act would have lustful imaginations. On this basis, the practice is equivalent or leads to adultery, fornication, evil addiction, idolatry in the mind or any other sexual perversion that can be imagined (Colossians 3:5). Moreover, since this act happens mostly through immoral thoughts, it exposes the person to being possessed by an unclean spirit.
It is also believed that some married people do it. But in the real sense, they are cheating their partners because the one performing the act is self-pleasuring when they should be mating (1 Corinthians 7:1-5). Similarly, masturbation could lead to a lack of satisfaction and over-expectation in a sexual relationship between couples, as the fellow engaging in this act, might be expecting the mate to replicate the ungodly patterns seen in the movies or the internet (Ephesians 5:21-33).
Beloved, masturbation is the opposite of the self-control that the Bible teaches. As seen in our Bible reading, anyone who lacks self-discipline is like a city whose walls are broken. In other words, such individuals can easily be destroyed or depressed because they have lost control of their emotions and exposed to the devil. On the other hand, self-control is an act of obedience to God and a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) which requires intentional restraint, maintaining positive thoughts, and delayed gratification. Do you desire to be set free from this act or other related sins? If yes, Jesus the great deliverer is here. Tell all to Him; He shall set you free (John 8:32).
