MASQUERADING FRIENDS

Today’s Bible reading uncovers the betrayal of Christ. The son of God was betrayed by His own disciple, Judas Iscariot. Everybody must have thought that this man was a faithful follower, but inwardly, he was a masquerading friend who had an ulterior motive. Judas had already met the high priests and bargained for thirty pieces of silver to deliver his master into their hands. However, Christ knew his thoughts, and even when He mentioned that someone would betray him, Judas maliciously said, “Rabbi, am I the one?” (v. 25).
There are masquerade-like friends in our inner circle, family, community, workplace, and church. These are people who replicate Judas’ traits and are willing to sell you out to the adversaries. Because of the knowledge that these men and women have about you, they can use it against you. This group of conspirators has venomous tongues which are used to gossip, curse, afflict and inflict pain on others. But the good news is that we possess the power to see beyond the masquerading veil, just as Jesus discerned the intention of Judas.
Beloved, when God opens your eyes and understanding to the powers that are bent on defeating you, it is the first step to victory. The second step is to stay spiritually and physically alert to avert any attack (1 Peter 5:8). Finally, pray that the enemy will repent, but if they fail, that the judgement of God should fall on them. How I pray for you today is that you shall not be a victim of the strikes of the masquerading friend, in Jesus’ name (Psalms 110:1). Amen!
