MARATHON OF HOPE
Psalms 37:22-24 (24) – Though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand. (NIV)
After Terry Fox lost his right leg to cancer in 1977, he wanted to make an impact by raising funds and awareness for cancer sufferers. So, he embarked on a daily 26-mile marathon. Having raised over $2 million from 3339 miles, Terry was again diagnosed with cancer of the lungs, and he couldn’t continue his dreams.
Life can be difficult. After all, Christ never promised that everything would be perfect here on earth until we get to heaven. But when it looked as if Terry’s hope had crashed, a staggering $10.2 million was donated by fans. What a dream come true for Terry and his sympathisers, who were filled with joy. Sadly, Terry died in 1981, but his foundation, “Marathon of Hope”, is still operating today and transforming lives in the nation of Canada.
What are your aspirations that seem cut off through fear and discouragement, among other things? Don’t panic, because Joseph too had dreams that were almost destroyed by the circumstances of life (hate, envy, slavery, and temptations). But he stood with God and fulfilled his destiny (Genesis 41:37–45).
Beloved, challenges may come, but it’s only in Jesus that you can scale through the hurdles, as seen in our Bible reading. Never allow depression or anxiety to settle into your life. Always remember that you are not alone. God be with you!
PRAYER OF DECREE
“I am God’s priority; my life cannot be shortened. I will never give up or look down. I will fulfil my destiny and be a blessing to generations. So, help me, God!”
Hymn: In Christ Alone — Keith Getty and Stuart Townend (2001)
(THE MIDNIGHT PRAYER)
1. Father, in every situation, please encourage me and send help to me.
2. Assassin of glory and laughter, assigned against me, die!
3. When trouble arises, Father, please hide me in Your secret place.
4. Satanic intruders sent to bring sorrow into my joy and salvation, scatter by fire!
THERE IS SURE HOPE IN CHRIST
