Psalms 136:1-26 (23) – He remembered us when we were humiliated— because his mercy endures forever. (GW)

Studying the Bible, you will notice that mercy often precedes the manifestation of miracles. No wonder, the Psalmist in today’s text, wrote about the testimonies of God’s mercy, which affirms that before we can receive anything from above, we must first attract divine compassion. We see a clear example in Luke 17:11-19, where the lepers’ first statement was, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us”. Similarly, but in a reversed order, when Jesus spotted the man at the pool of Bethesda, He knew he had been in that condition for years so that He was moved by sympathy (John 5:1-15).

Beloved, more than ever, every nation and people need the ‘Mercies of God’ because it is the basis for receiving anything through grace (Hebrews 4:16); whether deserving or undeserving. Divine mercy is a situation in which one was guilty but got pardoned and acquitted such as our transformation from the Adamic nature (sin) to life in Christ (Romans 6:6-14). Therefore, maybe you were once or still a liar, manipulator, murderer, cultist, fornicator and adulterer, among other things. If you repent, mercy shall speak for you (Ephesians 2:8-9), or peradventure, you have prayed and all to no avail. Activate your faith and cry for mercy yet again, it shall work for you, in Jesus’ name!

Hymn: I Will Sing of the Mercies of the Lord — James H. Fillmore (1864)

1. Lord Jesus, I repent today, please have mercy on me and cleanse my sins! (confess).

2. Father, by Your mercy, let my condition move You to action in my life (mention).

1. Father, uproot every inordinate affection for worldliness from my heart.

2. Father, arise and encourage every family, church, the weak, vulnerable and backsliders.

3. Arise in Your compassion oh Lord this week and bring me in contact with helpers of destiny.
