LIVING YOUR PURPOSE (5)

The final dimension of this series on living your purpose is the “wrong purpose” we often embark on. There is always the desire to have multiple ambitions or take on an unplanned task while fulfilling our divine mandate. However, anytime we drift from God’s agenda for our lives, we descend into the realm of confusion because a wrong purpose leads to aimlessness and loss of resources.
The story of the people who wanted to build a tower that could reach heaven is a great example. This community was united in purpose and had everything going for them, but they were on the wrong mission. God created man in His image for dominion and multiplication (Genesis 1:26-28). However, this group of people chose to remain together and not expand globally. Also, they had a proud character because they said to themselves, “Let us make a name for ourselves.” Therefore, as seen in today’s Bible reading, God scattered the people, and they couldn’t progress with their Adamic agenda.
Another evidence of a wrong purpose is the feeling of unrest and deep dissatisfaction. When we constantly lose sleep and peace over a project, career, or location, we must check if it is within our divine mandate. When the prodigal son squandered his inheritance, he engaged in an inferior lifestyle and felt distressed until he returned home (Luke 15:11-32). In the same way, whenever we deliberately or mistakenly proceed on a purposeless mission, the solution is to go back to God in prayer. If you are willing and obedient, He will redirect your path.
