LIGHT OVER DARKNESS
John 12:37-50 (46) – I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness. (NIV)
In the beginning, the earth was shapeless, blank, and covered with darkness. Nevertheless, at God’s command: ‘Let there be light’, light emerged, and was separated from darkness. Thus, light signifies the day while darkness became the night (Genesis 1:1-5).
Further, the Psalmist exemplified the night (darkness) as a time of weeping while equating the day (light) as a season of joy (Psalms 30:5). However, Christ’ birth brought salvation to all creation (Matthew 1:21-23). As read in our text, He became the light which outshined darkness. He healed the sick, raised the dead, and delivered the oppressed (Acts 10:38). More importantly, His death [resurrection] dispelled the reign of Satan and hell (Colossians 2:13-15).
Beloved, it is only Jesus who gives joy and light over darkness. No matter how long the night, when you accept Christ; you begin a new day. You emerge as a carrier of God’s light, which is powered by the Holy Spirit (Matthew 5:13-16). Therefore, all you need do is to acknowledge the Lord’s presence and live in His’ consciousness; your light is sure!
Hymn: Near the Cross – Frances J. Crosby (1869)
1. Lord, open my eyes of understanding to the power I possess as a child of light.
1. Pray for the restoration of joy and peace in families, the church, and nations.
2. Lord, empower me with power, faith, boldness and utterances!
3. I decree! Affliction shall never rise again in the history of my existence (mention).
