LESSONS ABOUT JUDAS
John 12:2-6 (6) – He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it (NIV)
I have often thought to myself why Christ appointed Judas as a disciple when He knew what he was capable of doing and what he would eventually do to betray Him. To think that Judas’ position as one of the inner circle and as the treasurer brought him closer to Jesus makes it more complicated. There are lessons to be learned from this experience.
The story of Judas calls for personal reflection. This is because your calling or ordination may be a path to destruction. God can decide to appoint a fellow just for His overall agenda to be established. It was destined that Christ would be betrayed so that He could die for the world. Therefore, if Judas had not been greedy enough to sell Jesus out, someone else would still have betrayed the master. However, since today’s Bible reading tells us that Judas had a love for money even before the betrayal, he was used by Satan as the perfect vessel to send Jesus to the cross, unknowing to them that it was God’s plan for the world to be saved.
Every Christian, minister of God, leader, and worker in the kingdom service or in the circular world has a constant responsibility to examine themselves. Leadership, ordination, or service is not only a physical endeavour but also a spiritual one. You must curb your weaknesses, lest you be taken over by the devil, just as he used Judas and also tried to manipulate Peter against Christ. The only difference was that Jesus had already prayed for Peter (Luke 22:31-32).
Beloved, before you attain that level, ensure that you study the Word of God to evidently grow, live like Jesus, and watch and pray so that you don’t become a vessel for the enemy.
