LEARN FROM THE BIRD
Exodus 20:12 – “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you. (NIV)
Due to the approaching winter, a sparrow was advised by its parents to join the host of sparrows heading for the warmer south region. But the sparrow, which thought it could survive the weather, rejected the advice and waved them goodbye. When winter came, the naughty bird could not cope, so it began to regret the decision, such as the ‘Prodigal Son’ did in Luke 15:11-32. Consequently, the bird fled for survival, but two hours into migration, the weather worsened so that its feathers froze.
Eventually, the sparrow fell on the cold ground and began to pant its last breath when of a sudden, a horse dropped a gigantic poo on it. The bird got annoyed, but the horse’s poo warmed its wings, and they regained strength. While still enjoying the warmth, the sparrow began to sing aloud, and as it continued, a cat which heard the melody came by, took the bird out of the poo and scraped it, but just as the bird was rejoicing thinking another help has come; the cat ate it!
Beloved, as seen in our Bible reading, never disregard your parent’s advice and people who care for your success (1 Peter 5:5-6). Also, remember that ‘Not everyone who shits on you is your enemy (Hebrews 12:6-11), and not everyone who gets you out of trouble is your friend’ (Proverbs 26:23-25). After all, Judas kissed Jesus (Luke 22:1-71)— ‘A kiss is not a sign of true love’ (Psalms 55:21). Finally, when you attain a level of success, it’s best to keep quiet because you can never tell who is happy or angry at your achievements (Genesis 6:5). It is my prayer for you today that, against all odds, you shall be victorious, in Jesus’ name.
Hymn: Everlasting Arms — Elisha A. Hoffman & Anthony J. Showalter (1887)
1. Father, I don’t want to perish. Please, help me to obey You and follow the counsel of my parents (elders).
1. Alone with God – cry out for mercy, humility and wisdom.
YOU SHALL BE MARVELOUSLY HELPED THIS WEEK
