Luke 22:47-48 (48) – But Jesus asked him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?” (NIV)

A woman had a python she loved so much. One day, her pet suddenly stopped eating for weeks. The desperate woman offered everything the pet would easily strangle to eat. Nothing worked! Therefore, she took the python to the veterinarian. The vet asked, ‘Does your pet wrap around you and spread out its length?’ The woman quickly answered, ‘Yes! In fact, it does that every day, but its lack of appetite makes me sad’. Then, the vet said something shocking:

‘Madam, your pet is not sick; it is just preparing to eat you! Every time it creeps and cuddles you, it is checking your size to see how great a meal you are and how it must be ready for the attack. Moreover, it does not eat to have enough space to digest you.’

Beloved, let’s do a personal check to see if we are the python or the prey because, even people close to you whom you are very affectionate with, can have mean intentions (Proverbs 26:23-25). That’s why you need the Holy Spirit to identify the snakes around you and their real intent. Do not be deceived by hugs; after all, as seen in our Bible reading, Judas kissed Jesus and yet betrayed Him! Therefore, ‘Don’t fear the enemy that attacks you but be more vigilant to discern the unfriendly friend that embraces you.’

If you still gossip, envy, backbite or pull others down (Romans 1:28-32), you are not different from the python and Judas! You need to repent, accept Christ, and love others as you would do to yourself (Galatians 5:13-26).
