KEEP YOUR FORK!
Romans 8:18-19 (18) – Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later. (NLT)
An aged woman discussed her final wishes with the pastor. She listed the songs, scriptures and the dress she wanted at her funeral. Then she said one more thing: ‘I want to be buried with a fork in my hand’. The pastor asked why, and the woman replied:
‘In all my years of attending church dinners; after the dishes are cleared, someone would say to everyone, ‘Keep your fork.’ It was my favourite dessert time because something sweeter would come, like velvety chocolate cake. Therefore, I want people to see me in that casket with a fork and wonder, ‘What’s with the fork?’ You will tell them, ‘Keep your fork, because the best is yet to come.’
At the burial, when people asked why the woman held a fork, the pastor told them about the conversation.
Beloved, this should be our thought daily resting assured that something better is coming. There is a crown waiting for us after our spotless sojourn on earth (2 Timothy 4:7-8). Paul also affirmed in our Bible reading that the glory ahead can never compare with the present. Heaven holds for us, far more reward and splendour. More so, a man will experience the law of diminishing return when his past is significant than his future, and that is never God’s plan for us (Job 8:7). Instead, He is saying: Hold on; your tomorrow is secured! (3 John 2).
PRAYER
Hymn: Victory Ahead – William Grum (1905)
1. Father, please give my life meaning, and help me never to lose focus of heaven.
(MIDNIGHT PRAYER)
1. Powers, stealing my staff of bread; be exposed and expire!
2. Father, deliver me not into the hands of my enemies. Disgrace them!
3. Before this year ends, Lord, please show me, my family, nation and the church Your glory.
BE BORN AGAIN!
