JESUS’ TESTIMONY IS THE SPIRIT OF PROPHECY
Revelation 19:10B – Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” (NKJV)
Yesterday, we learnt how the angel cautioned John and made it clear that he was a fellow servant of God like him, and they were to worship God only. Today, we will seek to understand the angel’s statement in our Bible reading: “The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”
The essence of examining this phrase is that many preachers and individuals have misinterpreted it to mean that giving testimonies serves as a prophetic utterance or force that activates other people’s breakthroughs. No! What this statement meant was that the special message delivered to John by the angel was instructed by Christ as a prophecy of what was to come. This compelled John to write the book of Revelation to testify to everything he saw in the revelation (Revelation 1:1-2). In other words, the book of Revelation is the testimony of Jesus.
The other aspect of today’s topic is to understand why or how the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. We now know that the book of Revelation is about what is to occur at the end of days and how Christ will reign forever (testimony of Jesus). Therefore, Jesus is the essence of what is to happen (prophecy). This means that even in present times, every genuine prophecy given by prophets or anyone must bear witness about Jesus and cause people to worship Him alone. Whoever does contrarily to give prophecies for self-glorification is in competition with Christ and will face the wrath of God (Micah 3:11-12).
Beloved, let no one deceive you. Know that Jesus is the Word, and no prophecy can come without Him. Learn to glorify Christ alone, and you will experience the fulfilment of His prophecy. Amen!
