JESUS IN YOUR BOAT
Mark 4:35-41 (39) – And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. (KJV)
In today’s text, Jesus was travelling with His disciples when a raging wind arose. Consequently, their boat was to capsize, but Jesus was asleep; prompting the disciples to wake Him up. He then rebuked the storm and spoke to it: ‘Peace, be still’, and there was a great calm. There are a few lessons to learn here.
Before the storm, the disciples obeyed Christ’s instruction to go over to the other side, while ensuring that Jesus was in their boat (vs 35-36). During the storm, though the disciples were frightened; yet, they acknowledged that God was with them [they cried for help] (vs 37-39). After the storm, Jesus asked: ‘Do you still have no faith?’ (vs 40-41)
Beloved, we need the divine presence and the understanding that irrespective of situations, God guarantees safety (Psalm 121:7-8). Whenever we panic and fail to speak to the storm [such as Jesus silenced the wind], we drown deeper in trouble waters (2 Timothy 1:7). Therefore, is Christ in your boat? If yes! Call out to Him in prayers through faith; the rage shall cease! However, if Jesus is absent, the boat will sink! (Matthew 7:24-27)
