IS LOVE ENOUGH FOR A GODLY RELATIONSHIP? (3)
Jeremiah 17:9 – The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? (NIV)
A relationship involves loving and associating with people who share the same interests as you. There are benefits when love is the bedrock of friendship, as found in Mark 2:1-12. Here, a paralysed man had friends who loved him and went as far as breaking the roofs for him to get healing. I decree in Jesus’ name before November ends, heaven shall put your love in the hearts of your helpers, and they shall assist you!
On the other hand, we need discernment because there may be unfriendly friends who pretend to love you but are haters (Proverbs 26:23-25). As seen in our Bible reading, just as the heart of man is evil and deceptive, so is it that earthly love can be manipulative. If outward love was enough to get into God’s good books, Judas would be celebrated today.
“His words are as smooth as butter, but in his heart is war. His words are as soothing as lotion, but underneath are daggers! (Psalms 55:21– NLT)
Beloved, love is not enough for a relationship because the expression of love, do not necessarily justify the genuineness of the heart. Instead, it is when we possess the Holy Ghost and response to Him through which we manifest the fruits of the spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). How deep and real is your love for God, spouse, children and colleagues? Think and ask God to help you!
PRAYER
Hymn: What a Friend we have in Jesus – Joseph M. Scriven (1855)
1. Father, please establish me in a friendship that will glorify You.
(MIDNIGHT PRAYER)
1. Any power, strategising to ridicule my star, scatter! Therefore, Father, please secure my rightful position.
2. Lord, as a church, family and individuals, please plant Your love in us!
3. Anything attracting shame and oppression to my life, dry up!
