INGREDIENTS OF PRAISE

Acts 2:42-47 (47) – Praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. (NIV)

Read: Psalms 24:3-4; 100:4

Psalms 22:3 says that God inhabits the praises of His people. This means that God values genuine praise that is offered from a clean heart, in spirit, and with gratitude. When the fountain from which the praises flow is pure, there is bound to be unrestricted access to the presence of God.

There is yet another level of praise that accompanies other actions. In today’s Bible reading, along with praising God, the congregation was devoted to the apostle’s teaching, prayed, believed in the signs and wonders, cared for each other, sold their possessions to give to the poor, and broke bread together with joy. After these things, there was a response from heaven. The people began to enjoy God’s favour and a daily increase in the number of souls that were saved.

Offering praises to God should not just be about outward expression; instead, it must be a reflection of an understanding of who God is. This understanding includes having the above attributes as listed in Acts 2:42-47. The people did not take praise as levity or a way to bribe God; they did other things that made their altar of praise fertile ground for God’s dwelling.

Beloved, be encouraged to search your heart and your offering of praise and make amends where possible. Add all that is necessary to your altar of praise to make it acceptable in God’s sight and to gain continuous access to His court. You shall indeed experience all-round favour and multiplication, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
