I AM THE BEST OF GOD!
Psalms 139:14 – I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous are Your works, and I know this very well. (BSB)
A crow thought it had it all until he saw a parrot with two colours. But the parrot said, ‘I lived happily until I saw a peacock with multiple colours.’ The crow then visited a peacock in the zoo and saw people gathering to view it. So, it said, ‘Dear Peacock, you are beautiful. Daily, many people come to see you, but when they sight me, they quickly shoo me away. I think you are the happiest bird on earth.’
The peacock replied, ‘Yes, I know I am gorgeous. However, it is because of the beauty that I am trapped in the zoo. I have checked the zoo carefully and discovered that the crow is the only bird not kept in a cage. Therefore, I have been thinking that if I were a crow, I could happily roam everywhere.’
Beloved, our lives are so unique that they are unworthy of comparison. Most times, the essence of comparing yourself to others is to either feel superior or inferior, but truth be told, both will serve no good purpose (2 Corinthians 10:12). As our Bible reading says, God created us perfectly but, two things prevent us from being the best of God: ‘living in the past and likening ourselves to others.’ Therefore, focus on your purpose, move beyond the previous, and celebrate people. However, don’t use man as your standard for perfection (Isaiah 2:22). They can motivate you, but God is the only perfect One!
PRAYER
Hymn: All the way my Saviour leads me – Fanny Crosby (1875)
1. I refuse to trade my originality on the ground of inferiority complex or pride.
(MIDNIGHT PRAYER)
1. Father, make me exactly what You have created me to be.
2. Lord, give me a clarity of vision and persistence in prayer.
‘COMPARISON IS A KILLER OF ORIGINALITY.’
