GREED IN MARRIAGE

Proverbs 15:27 – Greed brings grief to the whole family, but those who hate bribes will live. (NLT)

A man drowned his wife on their honeymoon because he wanted to inherit her multi-million-dollar estate. The greedy man knew his wife couldn’t swim, so he punctured their private yacht and allowed the water to submerge it while he jumped out to safety. As seen in today’s Bible reading, greed has no better ending than creating sorrow. Greed has ruined many lives and marriages. We must often examine ourselves and repent if we have become covetous of our spouse’s or other people’s possessions.

There was another couple who were married for years with no children, only for the husband to marry another wife. Consequently, the man secretly planned to sacrifice his first wife for money rituals. While taking her to the ritualist, he lied that she would be undergoing spiritual cleansing for fruitfulness. At the shrine, the woman would clean the entire house daily, and the ritualist was touched by her gesture. Therefore, he revealed the husband’s devilish agenda and gave the woman a strategy to escape.

On the ritual day, the woman succeeded in placing the calabash on the man’s head, and the greedy man became the hunted. Beloved, whether as a wife or husband, you must love your spouse regardless of the condition. Also, pray and ensure that you have a source of income because joblessness can lead to envy and covetousness. Above all, be respectful and show good character because your attitude can save you from destruction (1 Peter 3:13-22).

PRAYER

Hymn: Take My Life and Let It Be–Frances Ridley Havergal (1874)

1. Father, help me mend my ways where it is necessary for my marital journey.

(MIDNIGHT PRAYER)

1. Holy Spirit, please guide my thoughts, actions, and path to make it to eternity with God.

2. Father, let the seed of disgrace waiting to terminate me; be crushed!

3. Father, break the curse of profitless hard work in my life, family, career, ministry, and the Church.

GOD IS GOOD!
