GOD’S WILL IN PRAYER
Roman 8:28 – And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (NIV)
Prayer is communication with God, and the power of prayer remains a mystery. We can’t explain how prayer works because, at times, it is possible to pray and not receive an answer. This is not that God is unfaithful, but instead, it may be because of our sins or that it is not the appointed time or best option for us to have what we prayed for. We see an example of God’s will in prayer when Christ was to be crucified. Jesus prayed to His Father to take away what would be a painful experience, yet He got no response from heaven (Matthew 26:36–45). However, Jesus made a statement in His prayer, “Nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt.”
As Christians, we must adapt our mindset to the supremacy of God to allow Him to do whatever He wants concerning our lives and prayers. God may decide to grant our wishes, but He may also choose to withhold them in order to lead us to His perfect will. This perfect will was what Christ referred to when He said, “but as thou wilt.” God’s master plan for us is what should matter more to us when we intercede. Paul had an understanding of God’s will when he wrote what we have as our Bible text today. When we live holy and pray the right prayers through the help of the Holy Spirit, whether our prayers are answered or unanswered, it ought to strengthen our faith that all things work together for our good.
PRAYER
Hymn: Trust and Obey – John H. Sammis (1887)
1. Father, shape my life and testimony in accordance with Thy will for me.
(MIDNIGHT PRAYER)
1. Father, take me deeper into communion with You through prayers and my commitment to You.
2. I shut down every suggestion of hell against God’s perfect will for my life, family, nation and church.
3. Thou attacker of my soul and peace, the Lord shall trouble and dethrone you!
GIVE YOUR LIFE TO JESUS!
