FAMINE OF THE WORD
Matthew 4:1–4 – “Jesus answered, ‘It is written: “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”’ (NIV)
Where there is a famine of God’s Word, destruction is imminent because the Word of God is life and food for the soul. In our Bible reading, when Satan confronted Christ, the response he got teaches us that the scriptures are not ordinary letters but daily bread for believers. Without the Word, we become weak and vulnerable to the kingdom of darkness (Ephesians 6:16–17).
The famine of God’s Word also leads to ignorance in this complex world that keeps people from knowing and living the truth. Hosea 4:6 says, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” This means that the absence of God’s knowledge gives room for confusion. For example, the increasing abominations in our world today are because people have neglected God’s instructions. However, the good news is that there is a solution, which is found in the words of Jesus: “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”
Every person, family, church, and nation must return to intentionally living by what God says. God’s word is genuine. Our prosperity and eternity will be guaranteed when we take it as a guiding light. I encourage you to study the Bible, pray and pay close attention to the Holy Spirit. You will never lack God’s Word.
