ENEMIES OF PROGRESS

1 Samuel 18:6-11 (9) – And from that time on Saul kept a close eye on David. (NIV)

Yesterday, we learnt how the Nigerian hurdler broke the women’s 100-metre world record by finishing in 12:12 seconds. Since the athlete’s remarkable feat, several criticisms have surfaced. Many people have mentioned the possibility of an error in the timer, while some thought she wore a performance enhancement shoe. The fact is that when there is an elevation for someone nobody believes in, there will be complaints.

Any achievement that does not make the eye blink or the ear tingle is a common success, and God does not give His children ordinary successes. When God decides to raise you up, there is bound to be opposition. David had this experience both before and after his rise to fame. The first encounter was when David’s elder brother, Eliab, tried to hinder him from fighting Goliath because he knew he would become a star (1 Samuel 17:28). The second experience was Saul’s attempt at David’s life, as seen in our Bible reading. This is because Saul saw David as a threat to his throne, especially after the people sang his praises. In all, David excelled above his adversaries.

Beloved, what achievement are you praying about and working hard to attain? Be prepared for enemies when the testimony finally manifests. These enemies could be from your inner circle or people who envy you for no reason. The good news is that with God on your side, you will prevail like David did.

On the other hand, if your success does not get to the level that it causes a stir, you need to work harder. God is not mediocre. He can empower you to make a generational impact that will cause nations to marvel, just as they did for the 100-metre record breaker. I urge you to tell God to assist you in your efforts so that you can become a global star for Him.

PRAYER

Hymn: Jesus Saves – Priscilla J. Owens (1882)

1. Father, silence every opposition to my rising with my continuous success.

(THE MIDNIGHT PRAYER)

1. Father, remove from my life anything that will prevent me from reaching the top.

2. Father, turn every celebration of the enemy over my life into sorrow.

3. Lord Jesus, please give me tangible reasons to laugh this very month.

4. Father, let it rain again in our land, homes, nation, and the Church.

OUR FASTING AND PRAYER PROGRAMME HOLDS NEXT WEEKEND.
