ELDER BROTHER!
1 Samuel 17:1-58 (28) – When Eliab, David’s oldest brother, heard him speaking with the men, he burned with anger at him and asked, “Why have you come down here? And with whom did you leave those few sheep in the wilderness? I know how conceited you are and how wicked your heart is; you came down only to watch the battle.” (NIV)
After Joseph revealed his dreams, his elder brothers were so displeased that they sold him into slavery (Genesis 37:3-36). Likewise, David was anointed in the midst of his brethren (1 Samuel 16:1-13) and when he was to confront Goliath, the eldest brother (Eliab) tried to scold him by reminding him of his background, as seen in our Bible reading. But, in verses 29-30, David defended his actions saying, ‘Is there not a cause?’
Beloved, there is the ‘Elder Brother Spirit’, powered by the ‘Demon of envy’ and ‘tradition’ (James 3:14-15). This force does not only manipulate biological relatives but could possess anyone in a position to influence you. Therefore, as you move up in life, watch out for the people with this spirit because they purposely destroy destinies through misleading counsels. Just as Eliab knew David’s potentials, these ones know your capabilities and will try to hinder you by magnifying your weaknesses. Nevertheless, if you will pray, such powers shall be destroyed, in Jesus’ name (Isaiah 54:15).
