1 Samuel 17:25-30 (29) – And David said, “What have I done now? Is there not a cause?” (NKJV)
The moment Samuel anointed David in front of his brothers must have been a bitter pill for them to swallow (1 Samuel 16). More so, when the young man wanted to challenge Goliath, Eliab (the eldest brother) scolded him by reminding him of his background. He said, “Why did you come down here? And with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and the insolence of your heart, for you have come down to see the battle.” (v 28). But David, who had inquired about the prize to gain, defended his decision, saying: “Is there not a cause?”
Studying today’s Bible reading, David’s envious brother must have known that his clash with Goliath would announce him to stardom, so he tried to discourage him. There are people in positions of influence whom you think are interested in your progress. Watch out! They may be conspiring against you and your destiny. The sad fact is that many potentials waste away due to misleading counsels given by such fellows. I decree! Every conspiracy against your rising is crumbling now, in Jesus’ name.
Therefore beloved, in life, you need the discernment of the Holy Spirit (Isaiah 11:1-5), and when you have identified a good cause and opportunity for enlargement, go for it like David! Never allow discouragement and the fear of ‘What will people say’ deprive you of the glory ahead. Always remember that with God on your side, you will surely excel (Romans 8:31).
Hymn: He Leadeth Me – Joseph H. Gilmore (1862)
1. Any power assigned to twist my destiny, you are a failure; scatter unto desolation!
1. Powers on the mission to bury my spiritual life, career, talents, glory and helpers, be buried now!
2. My life! Recognise your divine cause and reject evil counsel(s).
3. I refuse to be blind and ignorant in the land of milk and honey.
GREAT IS THY PEACE!
