COUNT THE COST

Luke 9:57-62 (58) – Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.” (NIV)

A certain man said to Jesus, ‘I’ll follow you everywhere you go’. But Christ’s response as read in our Bible text meant that the gentleman should ‘count the cost’– if he was ready to do the work of a missionary and stay only in homes where he is welcomed (Luke 10:6-8; 14:25-35). Moreover, many keen followers of Christ expected that He would soon set up His kingdom so they may partake in it (Luke 19:11). But Jesus wanted the man to understand that to follow Him is not about earthly glory; instead, it’s to fulfil the Father’s work (John 9:4).

Beloved, the fact that Jesus had nowhere to lay His head does not mean every Christian today is called to live a life of poverty or to abandon their families. Because, even Christ was not poor (2 Corinthians 8:9), but always identified with the people and had wealthy followers (e.g. Joseph of Arimathea in Matthew 27:57). However, the key point here is that every child of God must be willing to forsake their treasures for God’s work (Matthew 6:21). Truly, to be an active Ambassador of Christ, you must count the cost and take the step!

PRAYER

Hymn: All to Jesus I Surrender – Judson W. Van De Venter (1896)

1. Father, help me surrender all for the gospel sake!

2. Lord, destroy the power of procrastination in my life.

(MIDNIGHT PRAYER)

1. Fire of revival, enter my life and prayer altar!

2. Powers using my life as an experiment. Catch fire!

3. Any power that says my voice shall not be heard for excellence. Expire!

BE BORN AGAIN!
