COOL YOUR TEMPER
Proverbs 14:29 – People with understanding control their anger; a hot temper shows great foolishness. (NLT)
A man received a text message from his neighbour: “Sorry sir, whenever you are not at home, I have been using your wife day and night much more than you do. I am confessing this because I am feeling very guilty. I hope you will accept my sincere apologies. I will pay if you wish to charge a service fee.” Immediately after reading the text, the man shot his wife dead. A few minutes later, he received another message: “Sorry sir, a spelling mistake… I meant WiFi, not Wife.”
While this may sound illusory, we must be careful how we react to things. As seen in our Bible reading, we should never be quick to get angry, for anger rests in the bosom of fools (Ecclesiastes 7:9). Anger opens the door to other deadly sins. Always look before you leap. Be sure to find out the other person’s version of events and allow yourself room to think before you respond (James 1:19-20). The man killed his innocent wife just because of a spelling error. I encourage you to examine yourself to see if you have done something similar in another form. For example, swearing at times of anger can destroy the offender and eventually ourselves. Dear parents, cease cursing your children when provoked, for you could ruin their destinies (Ephesians 4:29).
Beloved, let today’s story serve as a caution. Always remember that patience is a virtue, and be slow to anger. When sending a message, be very sure to proofread so you don’t cause harm. Conclusively, may I invite you to accept Christ if you haven’t done so. Let Him wash away your sins, anger, and excesses (2 Corinthians 5:17). Sign up for Jesus!
